Easy No Sew Octopus

These little creatures are so cute and work up fast! I love these for craft fairs when I need something quick that I can make a lot of. I can’t take credit for designing this pattern. I found it on Yarnybox.com. For this octopus, I used Yarn Bee Occasional in teal but any yarn can be used. Just remember changing the yarn will change the size of the finished octopus. Make sure your hook is 1-2 sizes smaller than the yarn you are using.

Materials:

  •  any 6 weight yarn.
  • Size J/6.0mm hook
  • Polyfill for stuffing
  • 18 mm Safety Eyes or felt eyes
  • Yarn needle
  • Stitch Marker

Abbreviations:

  • mr = magic ring
  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • inc = increase (2 sc in next stitch)
  • dec = invisible decrease (sc 2 stitches together)
  • st = stitch
  • FO = fasten off

*This pattern is worked in continuous rounds. Using a stitch marker to mark the first stitch is recommended.

*Chain loosely when making the chains for the tentacles as it  will make it easier to get 3 hdc into each stitch.

Pattern:

R1: 8 sc in a magic ring

R2: 8 inc (16)

R3: (1 sc, inc) x 8 (24)

R4: (2 sc, inc) x 8 (32)

R5-9 (5 rounds): 32 sc

R10: (2 sc, dec) x 8 (24)

R11: 24 sc

R12: (1 sc, dec) x 8 (16)

R13:  worked in the front loop only – *1 sc, Ch 8. Beginning in the 2nd chain from the hook, 3 hdc in each chain, 1 sc.* Repeat  7 more times.

Place safety eyes between rounds 8 and 9,  4 visible stitches apart. Begin stuffing the octopus.

R14: (1 sc, dec) x 8 in the back loops from round 13.

Finish stuffing your octopus and sew the hole closed.
